A festive dilemma

Inspired by ongoing conversations with the Coachtopia Beta Community, this story addresses a key tension felt by many of our members: how to balance their love of fashion with the wasteful practices of our linear economy—which are especially pronounced during the holidays.

Facing up to holiday waste

In fact, during the festive period, between 25 and 43 percent more waste is created than at any other time of year. Through the story of Lola and Wasty—a magical origin tale for Coachtopia itself—we’re confronting this often overlooked problem while offering a message of hope that we can change things for the better.

Enter Wasty

Soon though, she meets Wasty—a waste-collecting creature, itself made with Coach waste, who comes to her aid with a resolution to counter the problem of holiday waste by reimagining waste materials into beautiful Coachtopia products.

The start of something special

The two meet and resolve to build a community together. And as you can see here, it was love at first sight—even behind the scenes.

The making of Wasty

The latest (and biggest) member of the Coachtopian community is Wasty, a waste-loving creature made with Coach waste itself—including Coach leather scraps. Inspired by childhood tales from a world before CGI, we brought him to life for real with an intricate animatronic design.

Our Wasty community

In building a magical world for our Coachtopia tale, we also welcomed many new friends into our global community, partnering with talents from the United States; Guadeloupe, France; Serbia; Bulgaria and South Korea to showcase our latest made-from-waste looks.
